En 2017 STX France y MSC Cruceros anunciaron el inicio del contrato para la construcción de dos mega-barcos de crucero denominados “Meraviglia-Plus“. Las dos opciones habían sido confirmadas por el CEO de MSC Cruceros, Pierfranceso Vago.
MSC Grandiosa y MSC Virtuosa
De estos barcos el primero, el MSC Grandiosa se unió a la flota en 2019. Y el segundo de esta clase, el MSC Virtuosa, originalmente estaba planeado entregarse en 2020. Pero la pandemia de COVID-19 retraso los trabajos en los astilleros. MSC Cruceros recibió al MSC Virtuosa el 1 de febrero de 2021.
Los dos barcos de próxima-generación son los barcos más grandes jamás construidos por una empresa de cruceros europea. También los segundos más grandes a nivel mundial.
De que se trata la clase Meraviglia Plus de MSC Cruceros
Las dos unidades son parte del un plan de inversión sin precedentes en la industria de 9 billones de euros, para once nuevos barcos de crucero de próxima-generación para entrar en servicio hasta 2026. Los barcos “Meraviglia-Plus” son un paso más allá del prototipo de clase Meraviglia, incrementando su tonelaje a 177,000 con 2,450 cabinas para huéspedes. El primer MSC Meraviglia ya construído y operando desde junio de 2017, tiene un tonelaje de 167.000 y 2.250 cabinas para huéspedes.
La clase Meraviglia-Plus
Es la próxima-generacíón en barcos para todas las estaciones. Con 331 metros de largo y la adición de 200 cabinas extra, los dos barcos tienen la capacidad máxima de 6.300 huéspedes. Gracias a su alta innovación en tecnología maritima, un foco de atención máximo para MSC Cruceros, junto a sus barcos hermanos de la clase Meraviglia van a ser los únicos en su clase capaces de parar en todos los puertos del mundo.
Adicionalmente, los cuatro barcos Meraviglia y Meraviglia-Plus van a tener ECORIZON de STX France y otras innovadoras tecnologías para el cuidado ambiental. Entre otros, esto va a resultar en la reducción del nivel de emisiones contaminantes que ya van a estar en línea con los próximos requerimientos regulatorios del 2020.
Junto a otras características innovadoras, las galerías internas de los dos barcos van a ser de unos impresionantes 111 metros de largo y su techo con cielo LED será de 95×5 metros, proyectando eventos visuales y vistas a toda hora para animar la galería entera desde arriba, creando una experiencia atmosférica única para los huéspedes.

El barco insignia de la compañía, MSC Grandiosa, ofrece cruceros de 7 noches por el mediterráneo haciendo escalas en los puertos de Génova, Civitavecchia/Roma, Nápoles, Palermo y La Valeta.
Cirque du Soleil a bordo de los Meraviglia Plus
El Cirque du Soleil va a brindar sus shows de renombre mundial exclusivamente para los huéspedes de MSC Cruceros. En un local de cena-show creado especialmente para este fín, en un lounge en popa. Además, los barcos Meraviglia-Plus van a ofrecer una experiencia cultural única para los huéspedes en el mar. Un museo de bellas artes clásicas y contemporáneas único en su clase.
